From a cooler-than-normal vintage comes the YP Shiraz, a Barossa beauty that turns up the dial on elegance and spice. First-generation husband-and-wife winemakers Susan and Michael Papps take a minimal-intervention, organic approach to the cultivation of their historic Nuriootpa plot, where they tend to 30-year-old Shiraz vines alongside rising regional stars including Roussanne and Vermentino. The YP, crafted from hand-picked berries, whole-bunch fermented, and aged for 20 months in oak, offers a glimpse at a more restrained expression of a Barossa trademark, with distinct brightness and gentle herbal tones tempering more indulgent layers of chocolate and mocha.
Expect to find
An elegant, restrained Shiraz with the Barossa hallmarks of strong structure, complex spice, intense red fruit, and a touch of mocha — but without the intense alcoholic warmth of some of its counterparts.

Yelland & Papps
First-generation winemakers stake a claim in the Barossa
Hundreds of years of rich history and generations of family vintners coat the borders of the mighty Barossa Valley, but for Yelland & Papps, the husband-and-wife winery set on a picturesque small plot bought from the legendary Penfolds 15 years ago, this is a land of new beginnings and burgeoning opportunity.

The first generation of what they hope to be many, Susan and Michael Papps oversee the cultivation of Barossa heroes such as Shiraz and Grenache and up-and-comers like Vermentino and Carignane on a site dating back to 1846.
With the use of organic winemaking techniques (including the woolly sheep who trawl the vineyard trimming back grass and weeds), the duo produce vegan-friendly, boundary-pushing wines that epitomise power and elegance and amass a legion of awards, including a coveted spot on James Halliday’s ‘Ten Best New Wineries in Australia’.
