The untouched vistas of the Mornington Peninsula Hinterland roar to rich life in this Chardonnay from Merricks Estate, one of the founding vineyards of the world-renowned region. Typical of the area that owners George and Jacky Kefford have helped shape, Merricks’ 2018 vintage melds two batches of berries grown on the distinguished boughs of 42-year-old vines, one wild-fermented and the other with skin contact. This winemaking ingenuity begets remarkable complexity, underscored by pillowy hills of creamy lemon curd, indulgent French butter, and velvety stone fruit. It’s expertly restrained richness indicative of Merricks Estate’s prestigious heritage, celebrated on the label with an 1821 lithograph that’s the earliest printed image of Victoria.
