In the realm of sommeliers, wine experts, and wine connoisseurs, Riesling is what you might call a cult favourite. But not just any Riesling — particularly the star-bright, Granny-Smith-skin-packed, sour-candy lime-fests that characterise the best dry Rieslings on our green Earth. Thankfully, some of this life-changing Riesling comes from Tasmania, where the chill air and cooling breezes blanket banks of vines like those peppering the land at Holm Oak. Run by husband-and-wife team Tim and Bec Duffy (and His Royal Majesty Pinot the Pig), Holm Oak uses modern sustainable techniques to bring forth classic Tassie vino such as this Riesling, wrapped in stony layers of citrus and flint and gilded with festive pops of spiced apple and bright shoots of lime leaf.
Expect to find

Holm Oak
Tasmania’s wine pioneers — and their pig
The 70-kilometre Tamar River wends its placid way through the dewy hills and vivid green stretches of its namesake Tamar Valley, giving brilliant life to the dark soil and to the likes of Holm Oak, the Tasmanian winery run by husband-and-wife Tim and Bec Duffy and overseen by the snuffling attentions of Pinot the (not-so-teacup) pig. Holm Oak, set snug amidst the region’s temperate sea breezes and wind-sheltering slopes, first set down vines in 1983, making it one of Tasmania’s older vineyards.
