Today, these gnarled guardians are the region’s oldest, standing watch over the wild, pastoral beauty stretched across the cool-climate Macedon Ranges and producing remarkable fruit that Llew blends with Cabernet Franc and Merlot in a sentimental homage to his dad’s affinity for Bordeaux varieties. The affectionate nostalgia Llew carries for his dad — and the good-natured disagreements they once had over how much water their beloved Cabernet vines needed — find immortal life in this blackberry-and-spice jewel, which always matures for at least five years before release.
