Gamay has a tumultuous history marked by riot and rebellion. Outlawed by Philip the Bold in 1395, it found fast friends in defiant winemakers who hid the forbidden fruit amidst vines of the much-loved and -lauded Pinot Noir. In recent decades, the once-shunned French varietal has begun a renewed rise to the throne, amassing a cult following amongst renegades and innovators and gaining fame for its juicy lightness, crunchy texture, and refreshing bounce. Uva Non Grata, made using carbonic maceration by global wine collective Boutinot and named in the Latin fashion for ‘ungrateful grapes’, hails from Gamay’s spiritual home amidst the sloping hills of Beaujolais in France and showcases a delightfully disruptive personality that’s all zip, spice,
and sunshine.

Boutinot
The globe-spanning wine collective
In 1980, Paul Boutinot was having trouble finding quality wine to source for his parents’ restaurant. Out of frustration, he started his own plucky little import operation — and as other restaurateurs caught wind of it, it grew legs and blossomed into Boutinot, today a global, truly modern enterprise with a team spread across three continents and wines in a remarkable 40 countries.
