The regally poised cool-climate elegance of Victoria’s Yarra Valley makes a star turn in Medhurst’s 2019 Pinot Noir, awarded 95 points in Halliday Wine Companion. Crafted with hand-picked and hand-sorted berries plucked from low-yielding vines that grow in the sun-dappled shadow of the Warramate Hills, Medhurst’s statuesque expression of one of the Valley’s signature grapes marries buckets of juicy black cherry with effusive violet blossoms and lively, bright sunbursts of cranberry. An artfully constructed beauty reminiscent of the architecturally designed winery from whence it came.
Hand-picked and sorted, 90% whole berry/10% whole bunch, 10-15 days on skins, matured in French oak (29% new) for 10 months. Light, clear purple-crimson. Purity is the watchword for both the bouquet and palate, with just a shimmer of tannins, the oak influence not obvious. Silky red fruits are particularly appealing.

Supple dark cherry and lively raspberry strung along a taut line of cosy five-spice and toasted cinnamon
Roll your windows down, and coast down the Black Spur with the breeze ruffling your hair. Often cited as Victoria’s most beautiful road trip, the twisty, two-lane Black Spur connects Healesville with Narbethong and wends through ancient forests and towering mountain ash.

Meticulously crafted masterpieces
Back in 2000, 10 years after overseeing the acquisition of Australian icons Penfolds, Lindeman’s, and Wynns as CEO of Southcorp, Ross Wilson departed the corporate life to pursue the burgeoning passion he’d developed for wine. Following an arduous years-long search, he and his wife Robyn settled on a plot of land amongst the soft green hills and chill mists of the Yarra Valley — less than a kilometre away from her childhood home.
